A Place for the Fractured
Have you ever felt too broken?
Maybe you’ve felt like a mistake—fundamentally imperfect, incomplete, or too flawed to be whole. As a queer Asian-American, I have been there. For a long time, I felt like a collection of pieces with no place, purpose, or value.
But my cultural roots remind and teach me a different story.
I think of Cơm Tấm, the Vietnamese "Broken Rice" dish. These are the grains that shatter under the pressure of the mill. To a sterile system, they are waste; to my culture, they are the ultimate comfort food. Because the grain is fractured, it has more surface area. It doesn't just sit next to the flavor—it absorbs it. It holds a depth that "perfect" grains can never reach.
To be broken does not mean you are discarded. It means you are open. I’ve learned that when we embrace our own fractures, we become like that bowl of broken rice: seasoned, deep, and capable of offering true comfort to a world that is also hurting. Your history of being "shattered" is exactly what allows you to absorb the richness of life and extend an empathetic warmth and compassion to others.

You can call me Ben! Maybe you’re here because you feel a sense of lostness or disconnection that you can’t quite put into words. Perhaps you’re feeling restless, trying to build a life that looks right on paper, but nevertheless feels hollow at the end of the day. I work with people who are tired of skimming the surface and are ready to look at the shadows—the parts of their story that have been buried, silenced, or forgotten.
My practice bridges the gaps between the science of the brain, the psychology of the mind, and the art of the soul.

I am a triple-UCLA trained psychotherapist, grounded in Anthropology, Public Health, and Social Welfare with postgraduate work at California’s largest mental health research institute—UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior. I also have additional certification in Jungian Psychology for Clinical Practice from the CG Jung Institute of Los Angeles.
